In it, Mebane expounds on the various kinds of dark and the portrayals of them in the public arena. All the more explicitly, how ladies of shading are seen and rewarded. Perspectives on dark lady have changed since the social equality development. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the perspectives on dark magnificence have changed from one of worship to one of appall. Mebane expounds on the manners by which dark young ladies and lighter skin African American young ladies were dealt with and seen. Mebane expressed, â€Å"by the twentieth century, truly dark skin on a lady was considered ugly†(Mebane 239). During the mid 1900s, dark lady were not so much wanted.
